A Great Day!

About this time twenty three years, ago my Aunt Sadie and one of her sisters decided to have a little spontaneous picnic. It was a great day. Since Aunt Sadie was my neighbor growing up, she yelled to us to get ready. Dad was working in Detroit at the time so mom and I quickly prepared for an afternoon at the lake. This is one of my very favorite pictures. My grandfather didn't come, but grandma sent some goodies for the picnic. I wish he'd have come. He would've had a blast because the rest of us did. This is my dad's family. In the above picture, Aunt Sadie, Aunt Marie, Aunt Juanita, and Aunt Estel. They are my grandfather's sisters. And what a hoot they were. I miss them greatly.

It's beyond me where or even if I took pictures of the menfolk. But there is Uncle Ralph. Aunt Sadie's husband. Only at that time he was a boyfriend. They married one year later in December after I went away to college.

He was fun in a grouchy kinda way. He's in most of my good memories growing up. You had to take him with a grain of salt. Ralph's middle name was onery. He couldn't pronounce my name, so he usually called me "that girl" or "Liza".
I wish I could find more pictures from this day. We visited, we laughed, we walked the lake, we laughed, we ate, we laughed...I think of that day every single time I walk the dam.
Always remember, the best things in life aren't planned...

Lisa, thanks so much for visiting my food blog. I read quite a bit of your blog and have decided we are sister spirits for sure! You are now on my morning reading list. I was glad to hear from another person that the pizza does okay on a baking sheet. Take care and do stop by again. Nella

What a great memory! I can imagine how much fun you all had. I loved seeing these pictures. Isn't it a miracle we have such crystal clear replays in our minds... Sometimes when we're young, we REALIZE at the moment that THIS is something special. I imagine you did because you have always been so gifted at that kind of thing. You are terrific!

This is exactly why I love photos...they bring back memories. You can't really re-live the day, but it sure feel it sometimes when you look at photos.

Hugs!

What a wonderful memorie...my dad had 5 brothers and 1 sister and I remember the family reunions we had at a park with a pool, back then no one had a pool in their yard so it was a special treat each year:) Thanks for the memories!

Loved the post and one of my favorite songs playing. I so miss the family get togethers.Since mom is gone i guess the others have decided not to have them.
I just went to see dad and my cousin and I planned a covered dish dinner and we had a blast.
