Suggestions Please

In recent conversation, we have decided we want to go to the Biltmore Estate. I've been wanting to do this for a very long time. As much as I would like to go in the winter to their candlelight tour, we can't. Maybe sometime in the summer, after May. Have any of you been there and if so are there any suggestions? We are on a budget so keep that in mind. While you were there, were there any side trips or other places of interest you also suggest? I'm excited and cannot wait to hear you responses.

I would love to visit the estate, but have sadly yet to do so. I can't wait to see photos when you do get there... even if it seems ages away!

I want to go too!! I have friends who go at all different times. Evidently each season has its own special offerings. Have you checked out the website? It might help some!

Yes, I've been there over a decade ago...with my Ex.

Spectacular Place! You do realize that it is located in the Great State of NC!

Hi Lisa....I have never been, husband refuses to pay the high entrance fee and yet we live so close...But my neighbor goes all the time...I'll send her your link and see what ideas she has for other things to do in the area....

Lisa, you are in for a treat. Christmas is wonderful, autumn is spectacular. Summer is hot and green. May would still have lots of spring flowers. The Stable Cafe' was reasonably priced our last visit. The grounds are massive and you go up and down lots of stairs so wear comffy shoes. You cannot take pictures inside but you can outside.

Check out the Grove Park Inn while you are in Ashville. Make sure you take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are spectacular views. There are some lovely B&B inns and lots of antique shops to explore.

My husband said to get a glass of wine and drink it sitting by the fireplace in the lobby of the Grove Park Inn.

Enjoy your trip!

I live about 60 miles away and have been there a couple of times. One suggestion I will give is be sure when you enter the house to get the self guides audio players. They no longer offer guided tours and you will miss so much history without the audio. Be sure to go down to the garden and go in the greenhouses their. It is a lot of walking but a fun place to go.

You will be amazed! It is one of America's landmarks.
For sure get the audio tape~ the history of the place is fascinating. We had a wonderful meal in the stables... probably not the way to save money though. The winery is also fabulous with very nice wines.

Hendersonville is nearby and is a great little town. You might want to check for a place to stay there.
Have fun!
