I Drive a Hooptie or is it Hooptieeeyy?

Hmmm, I drive a Hooptie or is it Hooptee? I think I want a new car. Don't really need one, but I'd like to have one. In these trying times I'm quite pleased with my Hooptie or is it Hoopty? The paint is peeling off of my metallic silver Hooptiey. That doesn't stop 1992 Dodge Mini-vans from trying to beat me off the stop light line on Morley Street. I'm a little sentimental when it comes to personal items. My Hooptieeey is a personal item. It's mine, ALL mine. It's old with thousands of miles. If my car learned anything from my first Hooptie, it has at least 80,000 more to go. See I got 233,000 miles out of my first Hooptie. A 1992 Pontiac Grand Am. I loved that car. It took me everywhere I wanted to go. I gave it up 7 years ago to a new Hooptieee. Now I love my new, err old Hooptieee. Times are tough. I hate the thought of a car payment. I hate the thought of the ultimate decision. It would have to get great mileage, which automatically eliminates the vehicle in the first photo. I do really like this one.

None of them are superb vehicles. I hate the thought of breaking in a new Hooptieee. I know when mine is sick or needs something. I'd have to learn all over again. Window shopping is fun. Buying a car is stressful. hmmm, I think I'll keep driving my Hooptie.

I had a hooptie too when I first got a divorce, it was a 1970's pumkin colored Buick. It was built like a tank...it was my dad's car and when he got sick I drove it:) You have to love those hoopties!

We drive our vehicles for a very long time. We never were ones to get a new car just because. If they ain't broke, no sense in replacing them. Besides Drew and Gabi's dad is an excellent mechanic and keeps every car in the whole family in tip top shape.

Michelle has her '95 Grand Am. Still drives it, although, recently, she bought her dad's buick, which isn't a spring chicken, because it is big enough to haul Gabi and Drew and all their "stuff".

I have never heard the term hooptie anywhere! I would like a new car too but mine is a "teenager" in terms of car years. Only 90,000 miles.

Probably the smartest thing is to just keep the old one, but it really is tempting isn't it? My DH and I always keep our cars forever! It just makes good sense don't you think? Have a great day!

You got me there... I never heard of a hooptie either, but I love it!! That's what my red T-bird was. I sold it, traded it in for this one when it caught on fire at the Drive thru at Burger King!!! And then.... I cried all night, and my son traded in another T-bird he'd bought and gave them some more money and bought mine back.. all so it can sit in the yard and look like Country Trashy Folks... but I'm always dreaming of fixing it up and selling this one.. We really do fall for our cars, don't we? Hugs.

I showed the Boss your blog title and he's still sitting here next to me imitating Judge Joe with his
"Hoop-dee" speech he gives the people in his court...okay...it's been 4 minutes and he's still going....I needed a good laugh...

We dont have those cars here but my car has been sick and still not fixed, needs a new clutch, has to go in next month, till then we have to drive round knowing that every now and then the whole car will shudder and make a horrible noise, but im not going to get a newer car as this one has a whole lot more mileage/value in it than any motor dealer would give me in part exchange, so we will drive it till its final breath!

My SUV is 10 years old now and I love it. I don't even want to think about giving it up, but I may have to pretty soon. Little things are starting to break. WAHHHHH!
Good luck with your search for the perfect replacemetn.

I had never heard of a hooptie either. Must be an old American slang. I have a Saturn Vue. I just love it love it love it. I find it's roomy and I can put the seats down if I need to put more junk in it.
I had an old Caddie and it was falling apart and my husband looked at about 5 vehicles for me and took me to test drive this one and I didn't try any others. The heated seats, that just does it for me!
Oh it will be like letting an old friend go I am sure!
But considering the car companies, you will be treated like a queen.
